YEAR IN REVIEW: WHAT WE ATE IN 2023

This is an honest look at what we have eaten in the year. Is it interesting, I doubt it. But – it is a year in review for us. Looking forward to meal planning in the next year and being realistic about changes we need to make.
One change I can see is that we still eat tacos – but why did we leave the taco bowls (instead of tortillas) behind? Taco bowls with creamy chicken taco meat – yes, needs to get back on the list. We also love our taco sides, found here – it will be ready to view soon!

MANY TIMES

PIzza
Spaghetti (Italian Meatballs)
Smash Burgers

This probably shouldn’t be very surprising that a family in central Kansas would eat pizza, spaghetti and burgers most regularly. We have started making pizza at home which has been a fun challenge.

MADE A COUPLE TIMES

Honey Garlic Chicken
Stir Fry
Cajun Skillet (Shrimp Boil Skillet)
Beef Tacos
Fried Chicken (Parmesan Crusted Chicken)
Pesto Chx Pasta
Meatballs
Steak Tacos
Potato Soup
Fish Tacos
Beef Burritos
Pork Tenderloin
Mac and Cheese
Pork Tacos
BLT
Chicken Burritos
Chicken Tacos
Chicken Noodle Soup
Creamy Sausage Soup
Smash Burger Quesadillas

These are regular recipes that we have at the house. There are a few that probably belong on a month rotation. Creamy Sausage Soup is one that I made very regularly last year. We love it, but the sausage I had earlier this fall was too sweet and I couldn’t stand eating the soup! Seeing this in our year in review makes it easier to see where we need to make changes.

MADE AT LEAST ONCE – PROBABLY MORE

Tuscan Pasta
Chicken Pot Pie
Shrimp Boil
Pancetta
Brats
Chx Alfredo
Nuggets + Salad
Creamy Chx Taco
Boursin Orzo (Viral)
Chili (Red)
Chili Mac
Veggie Taco Soup
Taco Soup
Taco Bowls
Lasagna
Beef Stroganoff
Sausage and Veg Sheet Pan
Beef Tips
Beef Squash Pasta
Grilled Chicken
Brisket
Steak
Sausage Pasta
Chicken Rice Soup
Chicken Corn Chowder
Pork Chops
Creamy Chicken Taquitos
Sweet and Sour Chicken

Some of these that we will have more in 2024, Boursin Orzo, Taquitos, Taco Bowls, Chicken Pot Pie, Pancetta, Sweet and Sour chicken. We probably seem like a chili family – unfortunately we also get heartburn – so we do’t often have a red chili.

NOT AGAIN

Garlic Chicken (Asian)
Sticky Beef + Zucchini
Gumbo

These recipes just didn’t go over well. Not because of the food profile, mostly the recipes were took long or the ingredients just didn’t mesh like we expected.

Tell us! What do you like? What is your most requested food at your house! Have you ever thought about doing a year in review for your household menu?
